Juggernaut Athlete of the Month-May

Written by

By Chad Wesley Smith

Doing an athlete of the month award is something that I’ve been meaning to do for several months now and just haven’t taken the time to do so. Lately, our athlete’s performances have been so overwhelming that they must be recognized for the world to know.

At Juggernaut we are all about competition and are constantly testing our athletes and setting PRs in various lifts, sprints and jumps. Over the past month, these two athlete’s have stood out of our college football group by constantly putting more weight on the bar and setting PRs like it’s their job.

Blake Rodgers

Blake is a senior at Tesoro High School and is headed to the University of Washington in a few weeks, where he will play linebacker for the Huskies. If I had started doing this award in January, Blake would have been in contention for it every month; simply put, the kid is a beast. Blake is 6’2” and checks in at 225 pounds, here is a look at some of his highlight performances over the last month…

10 yd sprint (electronically timed)-1.59 seconds
40 yd Dash (electronically timed)-4.68 seconds

Flying 25yd sprint (20 yd run into 25yd electronically timed section)-2.44 seconds, the first time we timed this in March he ran 2.71 seconds.

Bench Press-365×2 (Also 425×4 reverse green band press)

Squat-500×1

Standing Triple Jump-30’9”, Blake has added 3’ to this test since beginning at Juggernaut, as well as gaining 15 pounds of solid muscle.

20 Yd Shuttle-3.96 seconds, this would have ranked Blake 1st among all linebackers at this year’s NFL Combine.

Chris Frost

Chris is a senior at Santa Margarita High School and is headed to the Air Force Academy in the fall, where he will play defensive line for the Falcons. Chris’ performances over the last several weeks have been amazing, earning him the nickname the PR Machine. It seems like every day Chris is blasting new PRs and setting marks that would be outstanding for a college senior getting ready for the NFL Draft, let alone a high school senior preparing for his first year in college. Chris is 6’4” 285 pounds and has put on 30 pounds since starting his training at Juggernaut in late February. Here are some of Chris’ highlights from the past month…

10 yd sprint (electronically timed)-1.68 seconds, the best 10yd split for a defensive tackle at this year’s NFL Combine was Fletcher Cox, a first round draft pick for the Eagles, who ran 1.63.

40 yd dash (electronically timed)-5.08 seconds

Here is Chris and fellow Juggernaut athlete, Max Tuerk (USC), celebrating after their Santa Margarita Eagles won the California Division 1 State Championship Game.

Flying 20 yd sprint (15 yd run into 20 yd electronically timed section)-2.27 seconds, the first time we timed Chris in this in March he ran 2.42 and weighed 260 pounds.

Standing Long Jump-9’2”, this would have ranked Chris in the top 5 among defensive tackles at the 2012 NFL Combine.

Reverse Band Press-405×4

Standing Triple Jump-28’6”, that is simply a remarkable display of explosive and reactive abilities from an athlete this size.

20 Yd Shuttle-4.18 seconds, this result would have ranked Chris 1st among all defensive tackles at this year’s NFL Combine.

Other notable performances in the last few weeks at Juggernaut include…

Kevin Torres’ 405 bench at 180 bodyweight and 18 years old, he also added a 505 squat to this (click to view video)

Mack Pierson’s (UPenn football commit) 530 squat at 189 bodyweight and 18 years old.

Alex Dole’s 585 squat (click to view video)

James Benedix’s (Malone football commit) easy 500 pound squat. James was among 12 high school and college football players to squat 500+ during last week’s testing period (click to view video)

Evan Law’s 31’9” standing triple jump at 201 pounds.

JD Krill’s 30.5” vertical at 250+ pounds. This represents a 9” PR for JD since beginning to train at Juggernaut in February.
